It's a good season for console gaming! Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, Godfather 2, inFamous, Prototype, Assasin's Creed 2, another Ratchet and Clank game... Granted some of those aren't coming out for a while still.
I was foaming at the mouth, frantic to get Godfather 2 the second it was released. It was delayed and I cried, but finally it was released. The game sucks. Waste of money. Waste of time. Waste of gas driving to Gamestop. Maybe if I hadn't played the first Godfather game so much, and gotten used to a GREAT game, and built up such high expectations, I wouldn't hate the second so much. GF2 is in every way inferior to the first game. Maybe the graphics are better, but when they remove/scale back 75% of the game's fun single player elements to make room for a twitchy multiplayer game...?
Then I played DW:G2, that game is freaking awesome. Having played all the Dynasty Warrior games since DW3 on the PS2, I'm very happy to see they finally fixed the problems of enemies appearing and disappearing because the system can't render them all. The engine's performance on the PS3 gets me excited for Dynasty Warriors 7 and Bladestorm 2.
Anyone that's played a Dynasty Warriors game knows the point is to unlock and max out Lu Bu. All other characters you play are just stepping stones to Lu Bu. DW:G2's Lu Bu is the Musha and Musha Mk II Gundams. I haven't gotten them yet, but making a bee line for them! DW6 desecrated Lu Bu by taking away his spear. Shame! DW6 and under also fails to DW:G2 because of the sheer number of missions in DW:G2. True the same handful of maps, but random objectives and enemies make it feel like you're not doing the same thing over and over and over to level up your character.
Bladestorm was an awesome game until you realized you can beat everything with cavalry. And since the horses move between bases fast too, why wouldn't you use only cavalry? The game was an awesome theory, but failed late-game play value. "I have to play as the super weak poleaxes to unlock engineers... blah... /quit"
inFamous is coming out next week. Super power sandbox game? Hells yes! There is a demo being released today, I'll let that decide if the game is worth it. I'm also worried about the camera being loose or somehow that will make me nauseous.
Ratchet and Clank: The Giant Disappointment came out last fall, I'm hoping this fall's release won't be a sequel. I have high hopes. They MUST put the arena back into the game. I'm boycotting the game if they don't. Doing the 100 round match back in one of the PS2 titles was top notch fun.
Ah and Wolverine! I played the demo, seems like it would be really fun! But I progressed in power quickly in the demo. So I worry the game is 4 hours long. Van Hellsing was a really fast game, but had a lot of replay value, maybe this is the same? The video store hasn't had a copy of the Wolverine game in, so I'll have to wait to try it in full.
